Our maths intervention follows the ‘Assess, Plan, Do, Review’ method to systematically rebuild maths understanding

Our maths intervention programme uses a series of instructional videos and supporting 3-challenge of worksheet for each maths topic (known as Bundles) across Years 1 to 6 of the National Curriculum. Each bundle finishes with an assessment to check students’ independent understanding and progress.

Programme Summary:

  • Dynamic assessment: Each student completes an initial assessment to identify learning gaps across 20 key areas of maths and determine their appropriate starting level.
  • Personalised Roadmap: We provide a full written report, create a baseline using our Student Tracking Portal (STP), and develop an individual ‘Roadmap’ of bundles to close identified gaps.
  • Student grouping: We recommend small, targeted groups based on students with similar Roadmaps.
  • Staff training: School staff receive training in effective primary maths teaching methods and in using our online resources and the STP.
  • Delivery: Teaching Assistants deliver the intervention sessions, with our ongoing support as required.*
  • Monitoring and support: We liaise regularly with Teaching Assistants to answer questions, monitor progress, and update the STP so schools can track each student’s progress in real time.*
  • Progress tracking: Schools have full access to the STP at any time to review individual or group progress.

*Four flexible pricing options are available, starting from £12 per student per term, depending on the level of support required. Please contact us for a no-obligation tailored quote.

How our programme works

Following our initial discussions with your school, our comprehensive tutoring programme involves multiple stages. From assessments and baseline tracking to extending our support and delivering training to school staff responsible for implementing the programme, we are in contact with you to ensure you and your students are supported and progressing in their maths.

Please see our video below for a detailed explanation or download our flow chart.

Assess

Following a dynamic assessment of each student, we produce a baseline report covering 20 key areas of maths (see example, where ‘Levels’ correspond to Primary Year Groups). The report provides an average year-group level for ‘Number’ skills as well as an overall average across all areas.

Plan - for student gaps

Focusing first on the ‘Number’ topics of maths, we identify each student’s starting point for 20 areas of maths and create a personalised ‘Roadmap’ outlining the interventions needed. This is stored, viewed and updated in the STP under each student’s record.

We also suggest groupings for students with similar roadmaps.

Do - using our online programme

Tutors/Teaching Assistants use each student’s Roadmap to follow their tailored sequence of lesson bundles, all accessible via our simple Learning Portal — each bundle complete with videos, worksheets, and assessments (and answers).

Review – Assessment at the end of Topic Bundle

Each Topic Bundle ends with an independent assessment that students complete and pass before moving on — confirming their gaps are closing and their maths foundations are secure. Tutorial numbers appear beside each question, making it easy to revisit lessons for extra practice.

After each completed assessment, results and feedback are uploaded to the Student Tracking Portal, where they are checked and the student’s record updated.

Progress is then visible at a glance through easy-to-read tracking data and bar charts.

Please note ‘Level’ represents year group.

Group reports are available for schools to access at any time, allowing easy comparison of average student progress. In the report, each pair of bars represents the progress of an individual student.

Supporting Resources

We have created a comprehensive pack of resources to support the Concrete and Pictorial stages of learning.

The pack includes manipulatives and posters that, based on our experience in primary schools, are both familiar and effective in helping children understand key maths concepts before moving on to abstract thinking.

These packs are available for purchase, and many schools choose to provide one for each Teaching Assistant delivering the intervention, using them regularly to enhance learning.

The types of support we offer

We offer two levels of provision where intervention is needed: ‘Specialist’ or ‘Targeted’ provision.

Specialist provision is for students who need more specialist, regular support, with all maths lessons being replaced with the programme. This may be for students with additional needs or maybe just students who have fallen significantly behind. We will work more closely with ‘Specialist’ tutoring staff to make sure these students are receiving anything extra they need.

Targeted provision is for students who may just need their normal maths lessons supplemented with extra support in some areas to enable them to correct misconceptions and fill gaps in their understanding so they can reach their full potential with their secondary learning.

Specialist

Lower attainment & not accessing school maths lessons

Need more support and regular lessons

Slower pace of learning

May have other difficulties which impact

Different learning styles

Need a different variety of lesson content for interest

Targeted

Significant or specific gaps impacting progress

Continue with regular maths lessons but supplement with lessons using the programme to close gaps and secure understanding

Faster pace of learning

Response from Parents

“I am grateful to the school for putting something in place that means my child can access learning at the right stage for them.”

Response from Students

“This is the first time I have understood maths”

Response from Tutors

“It is amazing! He wouldn’t do anything, Said he couldn’t do it – now he is never late and loves his maths!”
